Guidelines for Practice

Practice-at-Home (Minimum) Guidelines

Primary / New Beginners (Wee Lassies)

  • 40-60 minutes per week
  • 10-15 minutes 4x week

 

Beginners 1 & II (Bluebells & Bonnie Lassies)

  • 1.5 - 3 hours per week
  • 25-45 minutes - 4x week
  • 20-30 minutes daily

 

Novice & Intermediate

  • 3-4 hours per week
  • 45-60 minutes - 4x week
  • 20-30 minutes daily

 

Premier

  • 5-7 hours per week
  • 1 hr. plus 10-20 minutes - 4x week
  • 45-60 minutes daily

 

  1. These practice amounts are minimums for success.
  2. Always stretch / warm up before dancing!
  3. Try to practice in small time frames so that you don’t get too tired (and your movements don’t become sloppy  . . . precision is key).
  4. Keep practice to 30 minutes maximum the night before a competition.
  5. Non-competitive dancers still need to practice in order to keep up stamina and learn new dances
  6. After the Pas de Basque and Highland Fling dances are learned, please purchase one of these Highland Dance CDs from Dance to the Piper, The Competing Highland Dancer, or High Cut Above from www.highlandxpress.com, www.highlandisland.com, www.celticconnection.com or other reputable Highland Dance supplier
